As part of CV’s mission to communicate the good news of the Gospel to all people, the Africa team produced a full-length feature film aimed at the Deaf Community of South Africa. Titled Home, this film is an innovative, contemporary adaptation of the biblical story of the Prodigal Son, featuring a lead cast made up exclusively of deaf actors and actresses.
The story revolves around Jacob, a young man who is fresh out of school and dissatisfied with life. He asks his father, a prosperous car workshop owner, for his inheritance in order to start a business venture in Johannesburg, South Africa. Upon arriving there, he meets up with an old friend, Teboho, and soon finds himself caught up in a deceptive world of gambling, bars and women. His father becomes increasingly worried, having not heard from Jacob, and sends his older son Benjamin to look for him. While Benjamin tries hard to track him down, Jacob learns tough, valuable lessons with regards to the importance of true friendship, family and forgiveness.
This film has touched many lives already, and remains a valuable component of CV’s outreach to the Deaf Community. Moreover, we are exploring other opportunities to supply faith-based content to Deaf groups across South Africa and beyond.
