Inevitable

We often use the phrase, ‘it was inevitable’. Babies, as they grow up, inevitably fall many times as they learn to walk. When a child does tricks on a bike or a skateboard, it’s inevitable that at some stage they are going to fall.

I ski and have taught quite a few people to ski as well. It is, however, inevitable that they also will fall over. I often say to them, “If you aren’t falling, it’s because you aren’t trying.”

Falling is just a part of learning.

The consequence of a fall is usually pain. If the fall is serious, we may need the help of others — mothers, fathers, doctors, maybe even hospitals and surgeons.

In a spiritual sense, we all fall by failing to keep God’s law. The result of that is death, both physically and spiritually, for eternity. In fact, because of the sin of Adam and Eve, we are born with a sinful nature. The consequence of their fall has been pain and misery for the human race ever since.

It’s therefore inevitable that we must all die, and it’s inevitable that we will all meet God. However, it’s not inevitable that we will all be condemned for failing to reach his standard.

WE NEED HELP, and help came in the shape of God sending his own, dearly beloved son to save us. He paid the ultimate price when he gave his life to save us from our sins as he died on the cross at Calvary. In dying, he paid the price of death, and in rising again on the third day, he opened the door to eternal life — if we believe in him and accept his sacrifice on our behalf.

It’s inevitable we will die, but after that, nothing is inevitable as we have a choice. Choose Jesus and live with him for eternity, or choose the judgement of God.

I pray this Easter you will come to understand the enormity of what Jesus did for you on Good Friday two thousand years ago, and what the eternal hope his resurrection on Easter Sunday promises for those who put their trust in him.
