Finding Strength

To be emotionally overwhelmed means to be so completely consumed by your thoughts or emotions that you feel frozen and unable to function. This is a feeling many people can relate to.

Emotional overwhelm affects people at every stage of life, whether they’re a young adult learning the ways of life, a teenager accepting change, a parent trying to make ends meet, or an older person struggling to keep on top of things.

It is easy for people to feel consumed by the weight of their burdens and there are times when everything seems to be going wrong. When this happens, it’s often difficult  to muster up the strength to ask for help.

As church or ministry leaders, you would be all too familiar with the sight of people in your community and congregation feeling crushed and defeated by the emotion of ‘overwhelm’.

We need to remember the story of Peter, when he walked on water. As long as he had his eyes transfixed on Jesus, he did not sink.

This video from CV Resources empathises with those who are experiencing overwhelm. It explains that these feelings can be overcome. Just like Peter, when people keep their sight on Jesus, they will not sink. The video reminds and reassures Christians who are struggling, that Jesus will never leave them nor forsake them.

The bible says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
