SURPRISED

We are often surprised by what we see or hear. In fact, life is full of surprises, some good and some bad.

When we pray, we lay our petitions before God. Sometimes we do this in hope rather than in faith; however, the Bible tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God and therefore we must approach him in faith.

Our faith is based on the fact that we know he is a good God. We know that God loves us because he sent his only son to die for us and we also know that no good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly – Psalm 84:11.

James 5:16 tells us that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. So, provided we meet the basic conditions, God hears our prayers. Therefore, we shouldn’t be surprised when God answers our prayers; to be surprised implies we didn’t really believe he would.

Every prayer is heard but sometimes the answer is ‘no’ or sometimes it’s ‘later’.  Abraham and Sarah prayed for years for a child and yet God’s answer didn’t arrive until much later in their old age.

I am so impressed with the thought that every sincere prayer is stored in heaven and poured out before God. Imagine that, our voice is heard in the throne room of heaven; we have the ear of the Almighty!

So, with confidence and expectation we go before God’s eternal throne, to wait and see what he will do.
