Power in Weakness

Recently, Pastor Elienae, leader of our National Pioneer Initiative churches that were planted in East Timor, shared with us a testimony about God’s power over evil spirits:

One of our East Timorese pastors is Clementino, a devout man who spreads the message of Jesus despite suffering from a severe case of Hepatitis B. Recently, Pastor Clementino took his son to the hospital’s emergency department due to a high fever. Whilst his son was being treated, a truck filled with young people arrived and young men who seemed to be fainting were carried in. They were traveling to Ramelau Mountain, the highest peak in East Timor, to hold a Roman Catholic religious pilgrimage. These ceremonies are common and often involve animistic rituals. During the journey, seven of the travellers suddenly began to faint. Pastor Clementino, observing the commotion in the emergency room, knew immediately that it was an attack of evil spirits.

The doctors and nurses who were examining these young men did not know what to do, and asked Pastor Clementino to pray for these people. After explaining that it was a spiritual attack, he prayed for the first young man, who soon began to regain his senses. The others also began to recover. The pastor continued to pray in the name of Jesus and asked the young men to cry out the name of Jesus. The nurses also encouraged the young men to do the same. After a few minutes of prayer, all seven young men were freed. Pastor Clementino took the opportunity to share the Gospel with all of them and told them that it was necessary for them to surrender their lives to Jesus in order to be saved and free from such spiritual attacks. After thanking and hugging the pastor, the young people continued on their journey, but now with the seed of the Gospel planted in their hearts.

How inspiring that, despite his own challenges, God still used Pastor Clementino to bring Jesus into the hearts of others. This testimony reminds us of the verse below:

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
