Hope for Abandoned Children: One Hope Ukraine

In Ukraine, there are kids who have been living at the children’s hospital for up to 5 years. Abandoned by their parents and relatives for different reasons, they have continued to receive medical care but are lonely and unwanted.

An eyewitness to this extremely sad situation, a One Hope mentor, Maria, came to our project and asked for help. There were two specific children she had on her mind: Catherine* and Yarik*. She asked us to help find them good mentors. The psychologist of the hospital also supported her idea.

Soon after we posted an advertisement about these two children, we found a mentor for Catherine. Her mentor would be visiting and supporting the girl in all possible ways. It was very happy news!

We kept searching for the second mentor. Yarik was a regular boy who wanted to play and needed the attention of a good friend, just like other other kids. He was very kind and loved hugs. He had a hearing aid and a diagnosis of renal insufficiency. At 17 years old, he looked like a 12 year old and his behavior was more like that of a 7 year old.

We kept praying to find Yarik an adult male mentor. Our advertisement reached one young man who heard about it from his friend. He later told us:

“That day I was asking God to give me an opportunity to serve in that very children’s hospital and open that door for me, showing how to get there. And the text of the advertisement was written just in the same words as was my prayer uttered!”

Our mentors keep working to bring love and friendship to these precious children. We ask you to support the One Hope project and each mentor individually in prayer. The stronger the prayers, the more children can be impacted!
