HEAVEN ON EARTH

Do you want to go to heaven? If you asked most people that question today, you would probably get one of two answers:

  • I don’t believe in heaven, or
  • Yes, but not now.

I am in the second group but to the first group I say that not believing doesn’t make any difference to the facts. People didn’t believe the earth was round centuries ago either, but it is.

Those who have died and come back have often reported that they didn’t want to leave heaven once they witnessed its beauty and wonder. The reason many of us say ‘not now’ is because we don’t want to leave friends and loved ones, and don’t yet really understand what heaven is like.

For heaven to be perfect there must be rules. I am sure we can’t all do exactly what we want. Brawls and bad language won’t happen in heaven. Satan tried to do what he wanted and was cast out. However, the rest of us want to abide by those rules as we know they are for the greater good.

If there are going to be rules for eternity, then we ought to get used to following God’s rules now.

I once had an amazing revelation as I pondered how it is that I could go to heaven given the things I sometimes think or do. I felt God remind me of the Christian’s main temptations: the world, the flesh and the devil.

He then showed me that in heaven we are not in the world, our flesh is a new resurrected form, and the devil certainly isn’t there. So, we are free of temptation, and free to be perfect.

Isn’t that wonderful?

Whom the son sets free is free indeed. Our spirit starts its eternal life the moment we are born again, so we are free to follow God’s rules right away.

So let us bring a little bit of heaven down to earth today.
