From Witchcraft to Worship

This remarkable story tells of a CV 100 Nations pioneer in Mali who has made a big impact on the Soninke people – a predominantly unreached Muslim people group who practise folk Islam.

In a recent baptism ceremony, the pioneer welcomed seven new believers into the faith, including a practising witch doctor. What happened next is truly astonishing and a testament to the transformative power of faith.

Before discovering Jesus, this witch doctor gave out amulets and charms to the local people who would visit his home seeking protection from witchcraft. After his baptism, they have continued to come to him, asking for his magic power to protect them.

This has given him the amazing opportunity to share the message that the true protector is from above, and his name is Jesus. Because of these opportunities, he has been able to explain and teach the gospel to these people, who are the most afraid and desperate.

It is remarkable to see how God works through mysterious and unpredictable ways. Because God softened this man’s heart, he was able to eliminate witchcraft from not only his life, but from his wife’s life as well, as they both gave their hearts to Jesus because of the teachings of one pioneer.

Through this pioneer and his ongoing discipleship of the former witch doctor, God has opened the doors for many people in this region who practise witchcraft to come to know him, and provide them with a new hope for the future.

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.” (Hebrews 6:19)
