If Jesus came to your house, what would you do?
- Wouldn’t you offer him the best and most comfortable seat?
- Wouldn’t you offer him food and drink?
- Wouldn’t you offer him the best bedroom and a chance to shower?
Of course you would. What an incredible opportunity to do something of real value for someone who has done so much for us.
In Matthew 25:40 Jesus said: What I’m about to tell you is true. Anything you did for one of the least important of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
What an amazing thought that every time we serve one of our brothers or sisters, it is as though we are serving Jesus himself. I wonder if we have grasped the enormity of this.
Doing so will revolutionise how we treat others; no longer would it be a chore or a duty, but a matter of pleasure and delight. It will revolutionise how we see those who have not yet accepted Christ because they are precious in his sight and he would want us to do everything possible to bring them to a saving knowledge of himself.
I know this is hard to accept and I cannot say to you that I have achieved it myself because I have not. However, I think it is right that we should start to think in those terms. There are a lot of hurting people in the world, particularly during this Christmas season.
If we are to reach the world for Jesus, those hurting need to know we care for them and love them. We need to be his hands and feet; we need to put into action the way he would have us treat others and the things he would have us do.
The Christian life isn’t just difficult, it is impossible without God’s help, but with God all things are possible. We cannot show forth the love of God to others unless it is first in our hearts. When that happens then the impossible becomes possible because Christ is living in us and working through us, perfecting us.
