Prisoners Find Hope : Impact East Timor

mission opportunities

The Christmas season is one of the best mission opportunities to spread the Good News of Jesus in our community. This year, besides other outreach activities, we visited a prison to carry out a Christmas service.

It is not common for a protestant church to be allowed to perform evangelistic activities in a prison here in East Timor, given that the Catholic church is very strong and influential. But, because it was Christmas, we were allowed.

We were a group of 29 people, mostly youth. More than one hundred prisoners gathered for the service, men and women, including some former government high authorities that were sentenced to jail for corruption.

The Lord worked very powerfully while we worshipped Him. Many of the prisoners could not hold their tears, feeling the touch of the Lord through the songs we sang. At the end, before sharing a snack together, we hugged each one of them while telling them words of God’s love. Through this ministry, many prisoners found renewed hope.

The director of the prison was so touched that he asked us to come back another time, saying that what we had done was very important for the transformation of the lives of those men and women. Also, some prisoners came to tell us that, after finishing their term in prison, they would look for us. We are confident and thankful that the good seed of God’s Word was planted. Even though we were tired from much ministry over this season, God strengthened us and used us to show His love and bring hope to people in prison.

Please pray for the prisoners, that the seed of God’s Word would grow to produce a harvest of salvation in their lives. Pray also for more effective mission opportunities like this for our NPI churches in East Timor.
