Portrait Series to Reach Young People : China

There are many pressures on young adults in China as they graduate from university and search for jobs, navigate relationships, and strive to achieve what society considers success.

Many students accept the Gospel and grow up attending bible studies while at university. Often, when those students graduate, their lives start to change, even to the extent of compromising their faith. They become isolated, lonely, and stuck in their own troubles.

Liu* is one 24 year old graduate who had moved to a new city for work. There, she found herself without any friends or relatives. What’s worse, she had broken up with her boyfriend during university and she felt very lonely. Although Liu had accepted Jesus when she was in university, she was missing the Christian fellowship that she once knew. She had lost help from her Christian friends, and had become extremely hungry for spiritual nourishment.

Liu turned to online searches to find help, and eventually found the Portrait 007 – Raina article on yesHEis WeChat, which is part of a series of Chinese Christian portraits. She contacted our team on WeChat, hoping that she could get involved in a local church. Through our team member and Raina, Liu was connected with a pastor in her hometown. She has now come back to God and is no longer alone; she is receiving good teaching and love from her church family.

Mei* also found hope and connection through the Portrait series. Mei is more than 30 years old, which is considered a disaster for a single Chinese woman. She has been single for many years and has struggled to search for a spouse in order to fulfil the expectations of her culture. She tried many different ways to change herself, but just became more lost.

Mei knew nothing about Jesus, until she one day saw the Portrait 007 – Raina article on yesHEis WeChat. She read Raina’s story of hardship and confusion related to love issues. Eventually, Raina was saved by God, received grace and found her life companion.

It turned out that Mei was an acquaintance of Raina’s, so she got in touch and told Raina that her story brought her much encouragement and comfort. Mei decided to give herself a gift in the year 2018, so she went to church, accepted Jesus, and began to live a different but wonderful life.

We thank God that He has used the series of Chinese Christian Portraits on yesHEis WeChat to reach young people who are lost and seeking. Through the series of Chinese Christian Portraits, we have connected 12 people to church so far.

Please pray for Liu, Mei and other young Chinese people living in big cities. Pray that God will lead more people who are looking for faith and connection to come back to home to Jesus.
