A Resonating Love in the Mountains : East Timor

What does it mean for Christ to live in us?

It can become so simple when we let Him live out in every moment of our day, through our actions and words, even the ones that seem routine and unimportant. God has been transforming many lives as our partners in East Timor continue to serve in obedience to God’s calling on their lives. One of our partners shared a very impactful story that shows how easy it is for us to reflect God to those around us each day.

The mountains of East Timor aren’t the most populated places on Earth. On one such mountain lay a remote village where a pastor and his family serve. They were happily married and the Word of God lived strongly through both of them. They enjoyed taking strolls around the village; and whether it be walking to the market or otherwise, people would always see the pastor carrying their baby in his arms while holding his wife’s hand. He did this out of habit. He enjoyed it. They enjoyed it.

They were a very happy and grateful couple, and those were traits that resonated towards their surroundings. Just this last month, a woman from the village came up to them as they were strolling through the market hand in hand. She said that she had watched them for quite a while and was truly inspired. She wanted what they had: true happiness, appreciation, and gratefulness. The woman mentioned about how husbands in the village in general were rather rude and wouldn’t normally even consider doing such a thing. Showing love in public? Not likely to happen.

The pastor smiled. His family had been like a light in the village; not just due to their works at the church, but how they went about their daily lives. They were salt and light towards all those around them, reflecting God and his Word in everything they did.

Sometimes the only Bible a person may ever read is the one we are living out daily. It can be encouraging and empowering when someone sees God living through you – even through the tiniest of actions. Let Christ live out in you today and see how simple it can be for Him to reveal His hope to those around you.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16
